Croatia

Leaving Canada for 3 months in winter is always fabulous for us cold-adverse types, but instead of simply going south, an intermediately moderate climate was chosen (with a bunch of other criteria). Croatia was perfect all ’round for us—proximity to Adriatic Sea, historical cities/sites, awesome geographical features, efficient roads, courteous inhabitants, and the cleanest country we’ve seen! No negatives, only praise. Our month long visit started in Zagreb where it had not snowed in 18 years…until we rented a car heading west thru’ mountains to Rijeka! The snowstorm was exactly like our 2-day drive to an airport in Canada couple weeks ago but this included mountains and tunnels. At least it melted the next day (not like in Canada). Drove the coastline north to Slovenia border, then southbound to Dubrovnik, awed by incredible scenery, and ancient history all along the way.
